Lady Broncos Down ISU in Four Sets

The Boise State volleyball team bounced Idaho State last night in Bronco Gym in the first of three home matches this week. The Lady Broncos will be challenged by Nevada and Utah State this week.

The Boise State volleyball team downed a talented Idaho State squad last night 3-1 in Bronco Gym. The Lady Broncos won a hard-fought 28-26 first set and were thumped 25-14 in the second set before taking control 25-13 and 25-14 in the final two sets.

Coach Shawn Garus's team is now 15-4 on the season heading into two key Western Athletic Conference matches against Nevada and Utah State.

The Lady Broncos trailed in the early going before rallying in the final few points to get the first-set win. Idaho State grabbed a 13-3 lead in the second set and coasted the rest of the way to even the match. Sensing the urgency, the Broncos stormed back in the final two sets, recording 13 blocks in the fourth set to earn the win.

Senior Sadie Maughan had 10 blocks while junior Breann Nesselhuf had six. Fiona Jones had 10 digs and 14 points with Nesselhuf having 15 digs and 42 assists. Amanda Remy also contributed 12 digs and kept the Bengals at bay with a match-high four aces. Aggressive sophomores Cailin Fellows and Liz Harden had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Haylee Thompson-Brock had 10 kills for Idaho State while Jenna Proost had 15 digs and Karissa Legaux had 27 assists.

Bronco fans are encouraged to support their impressive volleyball team Thursday when Nevada enters Bronco Gym for a 7 p.m. match. Boise State hosts Utah State Saturday afternoon at 3 prior to the football game.
