Blake Renaud: 'I Just Want To Win'

De La Salle LB Blake Renaud (Concord, CA) committed to Boise State back in August following an unofficial visit to campus. He and his teammates are focused on continuing their dominant tradition of winning state championships and they're well on their way so far in 2010. Last Saturday, they defeated powerhouse Bishop Gorman out of Las Vegas in a nationally televised game. "It feels good to win a game like that. To beat a team of that caliber shows that we have a good chance at making state," he said. "We knew we'd have a good shot if we won that game. Our defense really stepped up," he added.

De La Salle trailed 14-7 at halftime and then dominated the second half by scoring three unanswered touchdowns. The future Bronco injured his foot in the first half, but knew he had to play through the pain. "My foot swelled up. I remember feeling a sharp pain in my foot like as if someone stepped on me or something," he stated. "I didn't really say anything until after the game. It just ended up being a bruise."

The X-rays on Blake's foot came back negative. He'll be held out of practice this week to give it time to heal and should be good to go on Friday. "I'll probably play this week," he said. "I plan on watching a lot of film and doing some upper-body lifting to get ready for the game."

It's never about the individual statistics at a powerhouse program like De La Salle. It's all about the team and getting better each week. "I just want to win," Renaud said. "You probably know more about my stats than I do. All I want to do is win another state championship."

Blake (6'2, 230, 4.69) keeps in contact with LBs Coach Bob Gregory. Coach Gregory has a lot of connections in the Bay Area from his days at Cal and did an excellent job of selling Blake on the football program at Boise State. "I usually call Coach Gregory every week. Coach Gregory is someone I want to be coached by," he said. "He's a good guy and wants his players to do well. He likes that I'm a blue-collar person. I'm physical and I try hard," he added.

What can Bronco fans expect to see from Blake Renaud? "I'm a downhill guy," he said. "I like to hit."
