Liberty HS RB Jay Ajayi (Frisco, TX) reached his goal of 2,000 yards rushing last Friday as Liberty defeated South Oak Cliff by a score of 37-7 to advance to the third round of the 4A State Playoffs. Ajayi and his teammates improved to 12-0 on the season as they inch closer to their goal of a state championship.

The future Bronco believes the win over South Oak Cliff was a full team effort. "It was a good outcome. We prepared ourselves all week and were mentally focused," he said. "It was real good since this was the first full game for me. I needed to be hydrated all week and I prepared for that," he added.

The talented RB had 39 carries (season high) for 292 yards and 4 TDs. That outstanding performance allowed him to surpass his goal of 2,000 yards rushing as his total now stands at 2,027 yards on the season. Ajayi went into the season hoping to match his TD total of 20 from a season ago and it's possible that he could double that total (currently stands at 34 TDs) should Liberty continue to advance in the playoffs.

Hard work and determination helped Ajayi (6'0, 204, 4.5) reach his goal. "Well, I reached my goal. I couldn't have done it without my teammates," he stated. "It shows that hard work and determination can help you reach any goal."

Head Coach Chris Petersen and Running Backs Coach Keith Bhonapha congratulated Jay on the win. "I actually got a Facebook message from both of them. They were excited about how I played," Ajayi said. "Coach B is a special guy and it's always good to have a great relationship with your position coach. Coach Pete is just a one of a kind coach. I love the way he coaches."

Some Big XII schools have shown some interest of late, but Ajayi is 100% committed to Boise State. "Baylor and A&M are coming," he said. "Nebraska and TCU are sending me some too. I'm still getting recruited, but I'm 100% committed," he added.
