Corral Conversations: Blake Renaud

De La Salle LB Blake Renaud (Concord, CA) signed with Boise State earlier this month as a member of the 2011 recruiting class. He also happens to be one of the most talked about signees in this year's class. He sat down with BroncoCountry.com to discuss his great HS career and his future as a Bronco.

De La Salle LB Blake Renaud (Concord, CA) signed with Boise State earlier this month as a member of the 2011 recruiting class. He also happens to be one of the most talked about signees in this year's class. Why is that? Well, you can watch the highlight film and decide for yourself.

Signing Day can be quite chaotic for both a coaching staff and the student-athlete. Looking back, that was not the case for Blake Renaud. As a matter of fact, he describes February 2nd as "just another day."

"You know, it was just another day for me, but it was also real special," he said. "The great part for me was just hitting the fax button and knowing that I was going to Boise State. We didn't really do anything that day at school, but we had Dylan (Wynn) and a few other guys over for breakfast that morning."

Renaud (6'2, 235) will kick it into high gear now that he has received the workout plan from the Bronco coaching staff.

"I got the workout plan this week. Basically, I've done all the stuff, just a different format," he stated. "I spoke to Coach Gregory two days ago. He was checking in and letting me know they had just started their 5:45 workouts."

De La Salle wrapped up the 2010 season with yet another state championship. Renaud and the stifling Spartan defense held up their end of the deal as opponents averaged less than 10 points per game. The Spartans concluded the 2010 season with a dominant 48-8 victory over Servite in a game that could simply be described as "muddy."

"I'd say the win against Servite was my favorite. Playing in the mud was a lot of fun," Renaud said. "I wasn't surprised that we were beating them, but they didn't seem mad that they were losing. That surprised me. I probably would have gotten a fifteen yard penalty if I had been in that position."

Boise State is known for its physical nature on defense. Coming from De La Salle, Renaud believes he'll fit right in with that team concept on defense.

"I think what surprised Servite was how physical we were on defense. They hadn't played a team that just gets in your face and comes at you," he said. "Most of the LA teams have gone to the spread offense. They just aren't used to people getting after it on defense."

The future Bronco says he'll arrive in Boise in late June and is ready to get to work.

"I'll be there around June 26th," he said. "I'll be ready to get into football mode and get things going," he added.
