Loyola HS WR Kodi Whitfield (Los Angeles, CA) currently has eight offers in-hand with Boise State being one of the most recent. The talented WR says he hopes to have a top five heading into his senior season and will probably end up taking most of his official visits.

"Coach Yates offered me around two weeks ago," he said. "I'd say it was definitely a surprise since I didn't have too much contact with them prior to that," he added.

"I spoke to Coach Yates again a couple days after they offered and I'm supposed to talk to Coach Petersen this week," he stated. "Coach Petersen wants to talk to my mom and all of that too."

"They're recruiting me as a WR," said Whitfield. "It seems like everyone has liked Boise State since they've been winning so much through the years. That's a top program you seem to hear about every year. They get so much publicity up there and it seems like their games are always on TV."

Whitfield says he doesn't have a top five yet, but his goal is to have one heading into his senior season.

"I'm just trying to look at each program individually," he said. "I hope I can have a top five around September and then my goal is to commit sometime near the end of my senior season. It might even be close to Signing Day. We'll have to see."

What is Whitfield looking for in a school?

"Definitely a good balance between academics and football," said Whitfield. "I want to see how well they've been doing the past few years and the coaching stability will be big too. I've had three different coaches at Loyola, so I want to see about that. I'd say a winning tradition will be big as well."

Spring ball is underway at Loyola and Whitfield says (finally) having some coaching stability combined with their talent could mean big things in 2011.

"I'd say a CIF Championship is our goal. I think we can compete this year," he said. "This will be the first year we've had the same coach since I've been here. We've got that taken care of now and I know we have the talent to compete for a championship."

What does Whitfield (6'2, 190) bring to the gridiron?

"I'd say surprising speed, a finesse runner, technician on my routes, and ball skills," he said. "I think I can go up and get the ball well and also catch the ball well in traffic," he added.

The talented WR currently has offers from Boise State, Boston College, Washington, Arizona State, UCLA, Northwestern, Duke, and Cal Poly.

As a junior, he had 33 receptions for 430 yards and 5 TDs.
