Texas LB Visits The Blue

Klein HS LB Ben Weaver (Klein, TX) recently narrowed his list to three and Boise State made the final cut. Klein HS LB Ben Weaver (Klein, TX) recently narrowed his list to three and Boise State made the final cut. He was on campus just a couple days ago to see what the program had to offer and to say he was impressed would be an understatement.

"We got there on Sunday night and then visited the campus and everything on Monday," he said. "The weather was just incredible. It seems like we always have 100% humidity in Texas, so that was a real nice change. Overall, the environment was so nice with snow still on the mountains and everything. So, on Monday we toured the campus, met the coaches, saw the academic center, and watched one of the player-run practices."

"The coaching staff definitely made it feel like a family at Boise State and that they weren't just going to be my coach, but an inspiration to my life," he stated. "Talking to the players you can see how much they enjoy being there and they all seem like best friends. They have a bunch of Texas boys up there as well, so I thought that was real cool. It's great that you can go to Boise and still have the personality of a Texan. I like that."

"Coach Petersen was actually out of town while I was there," said Weaver. "He called the person I was riding around with and we talked for a good ten minutes. He said he had this trip planned for a long time and was mad he couldn't be there. He was telling me how happy he was that I came by and was making sure that everything was going well."

The talented LB says all three schools (Boise State, Cal, Texas Tech) are even right now, but will determine a leader within the next week or so.

"They're all even right now," said Weaver. "I'm trying to keep an open mind as I visit these schools and go through the week. I'll know who is where next week after I get home and can start thinking about it. I'm just trying to go through each school right now and see what I like."

"On the football side, the coaches and how hard they recruit me will have an impact," he said. "Playing time will also be big for me. The record and how much they win will be a factor too. I'd say I'm looking at the academics as well."

Weaver says he "definitely" wants to know his college destination by the start of his senior year. A commitment could also come as early as next week as well.

"Definitely this summer," he said. "It could be as early as next week, but definitely this summer. I want to get this out of the way so I can focus on my senior year."

Weaver (6'1, 225, 4.71) and his teammates at Klein just started summer workouts last week.

"We started last week, but I obviously missed this week," he said. "My goal when I get back is to just work hard, get faster, and get stronger," he added.

As a junior, Weaver had 85 tackles, 3 sacks, and 1 INT.

The talented LB currently has offers from Boise State, Texas Tech, California, Texas State, Air Force, Louisville, Utah, McNeese State, Navy, and Houston.
