Richland HS LB Sawyer Powell (Richland, WA) was in Boise last week for the annual football camp at Bronco Stadium and earned an MVP Award based on his solid performance. So, how close is he to an offer?

"I was at the Boise State camp from Wednesday to Saturday," he said. "The Boise State camp was tight. I met the LB Coach and he said they'll be watching me. They gave me an MVP Award, so that was very interesting. I felt good about my performance at the camp, made a lot of plays."

"I was pumped when I won that award," he stated. "If anybody has anything good to say about my performance, it's amazing. It felt that much better coming from the coaches at Boise State."

Is Powell close to an offer?

"I think Boise State could offer," said Powell. "Obviously, they were watching me and gave me that award. I think they could possibly offer in the near future."

"I think it would be a great place to play," he said. "I wouldn't mind playing in a smaller community like that and the environment was really friendly. They have a lot of great fans in Boise."

The talented LB left Boise on Sunday and went south to Provo where he attended the BYU camp on Monday and Tuesday.

"The BYU camp was a lot of fun too," he said. "The coaches gave me a lot of attention and moved me around to Safety. They seem interested, but they aren't going to offer until a little bit into the season."

"I felt like I performed better at the Boise State camp," said Powell. "I came out fresh at Boise State and was playing the position I'm used to. I was pretty tired by the time I got to BYU, but I still gave it my all."

Powell (6'0, 195, 4.57) says those two camps are the only ones on his schedule and will now turn his focus toward preparing for his senior season.

"We're going to be doing summer workouts together next week," he said. "I'll be doing some other training on the side as well," he added.
