Mountain View HS LB Joel Skotte (Bend, OR) is one of the top targets on the Boise State recruiting board for the 2012 class and also attended the Junior Day event back in April. Well, he'll be making another trip to Boise within the next two weeks and will bring his brother along with him.

"I spoke to Coach Petersen and Coach Gregory on Wednesday," he said. "We were just catching up, it went well. We just talked about how our summer went and about me heading down there sometime within the next two weeks. It'll either be next weekend or the weekend after that."

"I just want to show my brother around and get his thoughts," said Skotte. "I'm wanting his input on the whole process so I'm just going to take him down there with me so he can see the campus, meet the coaching staff, and things like that."

"My top three is still pretty firm," he stated. "I've still got Boise State, Oregon State, and Air Force as my top three. Stanford and UCLA are still recruiting me so we'll see what happens there, but my top three is firm right now."

With all three schools being even over the past few months...what could push one to the top off his list?

"It's going to be all about the vibe that I get," he said. "If I get that good vibe, that's important. I'd say the relationship with the coaching staff is obviously important and talking to the players is too. That'll be the difference."

"Looks like the (official) visit to Boise State will be during my bye week," said Skotte. "I'm thinking Oregon State will probably be in December and Air Force sometime in January."

Expectations are higher than ever as Skotte and his teammates prepare for what should be an outstanding season. The Cougars will open up the season on September 2nd against a solid Eagle Point team in a game that has evolved into a pretty good rivalry over the past decade.

"A lot of people are thinking they'll win this game," he said. "I think we'll probably start game-planning next week, but we know we have a good team. We beat them last year and we expect to do it again this year. It's always our first game, so it's become a rivalry because of that. I'm confident in our team. I think we'll get the job done."

"I lead by example," he said. "I'm not too much of a vocal leader, but I'll get on them if they aren't working hard," he added.
