Leland HS ATH Christopher Santini (San Jose, CA) verbally committed to Boise State on Monday evening and became the thirteenth prospect to pledge to the Blue and Orange for the 2012 class. It was a tight race throughout his recruitment, but the Broncos pulled ahead right at the end. So, what set Boise State apart from the other schools?

"Well, they have such a great program," he said. "It wasn't just the winning record, but the opportunity that Boise brings that Oregon State just doesn't have right now...that national recognition."

"There were two things that really stuck out to me on my visit up there," he stated. "First, me and my dad went into a restaurant when we got there and everyone was ridiculously friendly, so different from California. Second, I remember a few people recognizing me and yelling my name. That was real cool."

"Me, my dad, and my coach talked about it a couple days ago," he said. "We were just getting a general idea of where I wanted to go, but I knew it was going to be Boise after that."

So, Santini decided to become a Bronco just a few days later.....

"I committed to Coach Petersen and then I called Coach Strausser," said Santini. "Both were excited, but we kind of told them a few days ago that we were leaning to Boise."

The Boise State staff likes Santini (6'1, 215) at Nickle. Needless to say, he feels it's a perfect fit.

"It's like they made a position just for me," he said with a laugh. "I still remember Coach Choate talking about how they blitz the Nickle about 30% of the time. That's probably the most exciting part."

The future Bronco says he's "relieved" and can now focus on his senior season.

"I'd say relieved, but also excited since my senior season is coming up," said Santini. "Today was our first day in pads, so that's exciting. I think we looked pretty good out there."

The talented ATH chose Boise State over offers from Oregon State, Utah, San Jose State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Utah State, Army, and Cal Poly.
