Chad Chalich: 'I Think They Underestimated Us

Coeur d'Alene HS QB Chad Chalich (Coeur d'Alene, ID) continues to put up solid numbers, but is still flying under the radar on the recruiting front. Coeur d'Alene HS QB Chad Chalich (Coeur d'Alene, ID) continues to put up solid numbers, but is still flying under the radar on the recruiting front. The talented QB led his team to a 55-6 win over Whitney (CA) just this past week in the Kibbie Dome and says he's focused on winning yet another State Championship.

"I think they underestimated us," he said with a laugh. "Even the Boise schools say things about how we're from North Idaho and don't have any competition. They have a ton of kids coming in and out of their school down in California, so I think they were a little cocky."

"They (Whitney) looked pretty good and fast on film," he stated. "I just think we got the ball first, scored, and then the defense did their part to get us the ball back. We scored again after that and I'm pretty sure we put points on the board every time but once. Our defense did a great job holding them to just six points."

"I think the biggest difference for me is just the maturity," said Chalich. "Being a senior, I have a lot more control of the offense. I've got three senior receivers that I've been working with for a while and we put in a lot of work during the off-season."

Chalich is still looking for that first offer, but says he keeps in contact with (Offensive Coordinator) Brent Pease at Boise State.

"I email Brent Pease here and there, but I know they got that QB from Florida," he said. "I'll probably go down for a game at same point this season and check-out the team, campus, and things like that again."

Former Coeur d'Alene RB Zach Keiser decided to take the preferred walk-on offer from Boise State over scholarship offers from smaller schools. What would Chalich do in a similar situation?

"I would probably take the walk-on spot from Boise State. I think I'd go down there and see if I can compete," he said. "I know Zach loves it down there. He said it's a challenge going from HS to college, but he's enjoying it."

"I'm just focused on my senior season right now."

What about that win over Georgia?

"What stood out to me is how Kellen (Moore) makes it look so easy back there," he said. "It's not easy at all and especially not against a team like Georgia. They do a great job of coaching them up and getting them ready to play. I think I could succeed in that offense."

Through four games - the talented QB has 1,159 yards passing and 12 TDs. Chalich (6'2, 185) has also racked up 207 rushing yards and 6 TDs on the ground.
