Fruitland HS LB Joey Martarano (Fruitland, ID) will likely be the top prospect in the State of Idaho for the 2013 class and became the earliest verbal commit in program history when he pledged to Boise State back in July. Martarano (6'3, 225) has dominated on both sides of the ball through six games and the future Bronco has his sights set on yet another State Championship.

"We're 6-0 right now," he said. "The season has gone about how we expected. Our goal is to win conference and then another (state) title after that.

"I play both ways every game, but we've been killing a lot of people so I only play like two quarters," he stated. "On defense, I'm pretty sure I have 70 tackles, 3-4 sacks, and 2 INTs (1 for TD). On offense, I have a total of 15 TDs at QB."

"I think the secret to our success is the fact that we've been playing together since such a young age," said Martarano. "We train really hard in the off-season and it pays off during the season."

The talented LB says he's 100% committed and is excited about his future at Boise State.

"I like Coach Gregory a lot. He and Coach Choate coach with a lot of fire," he said. "Right now, they like me at MLB and I've heard maybe DE too. Something similar to Shea McClellin."

"Coach Pete has a great program," he said. "I'm excited to play for him and I like all the coaches a lot," he added.

For Martarano, it's a family affair when it comes to Boise State. Every member of his family is a Bronco fan and his dad played at Boise State in the early 90s.

"My family is really excited," he said. "I remember calling my uncle right after I committed and he was pumped. He has season tickets and has been going to the games for a long time. Actually, every person in my family is a Bronco fan. My dad (Victor) played at Boise State and I've been going to the games since I was little."

"I love everything about Boise State," said Martarano. "I love the atmosphere, the stadium, the blue turf, just everything."

Is there any "state pride" when it comes to playing at Boise State and representing the State of Idaho?

"Yeah, there's definitely some state pride," he said. "Everyone in Idaho wants to play for Boise State and it's cool to get a chance to play there when you're from Idaho."

As a LB, he says he plays physical and "likes to hit."

"I'm physical, really instinctive, and I like to hit," he said. "That's how I'd describe myself," he added.
