Klein HS LB Ben Weaver (Klein, TX) verbally committed to Boise State back in June as he chose the Broncos over offers from Texas Tech, California, and others. The talented LB is currently having a solid senior season and the individual rankings on Scout.com reflect that as he made a huge jump just recently in the position rankings. So, what are his thoughts on the season so far?

"Well, I can definitely tell that I'm progressing as a player and not making the same mistakes as last year," he said. "Still, our team isn't doing very well and we're 3-5 right now," he added.

"I'd say it's mostly just stupid mistakes," he stated. "I'm just going to continue working hard, try to get better, and get the whole mental aspect down. I'm going to do what I can to play to the best of my ability."

"It's hard since no one likes losing," said Weaver. "It's hard to play when you lose consistently, but it pushes you to get better. We're trying to teach these young kids to pull through it and fight for that win."

Weaver says he's 100% committed to Boise State and keeps in close contact with the coaching staff.

"I just spoke to them last Tuesday," he said. "Usually, I'll talk to Coach Gregory or Coach Choate, but sometimes both of them too. Coach Choate is coming down for our game next week. I'll have a little bit of nerves going into it, but it's no big deal. They've already been down here once a little earlier this season. I'm just going to go out there and try to impress them the best I can."

"I spoke to Coach Petersen on Tuesday as well," he said. "He was just calling to see how I'm doing and to let me know that they can't wait to get me up there," he added.

Looking back, Weaver was sold on the fact that he could come in and earn some early playing time, but also play for a program with a winning tradition.

"I'd say it was a combination of winning and early playing time," said Weaver. "I've got a chance to go in there and earn some (early) playing time for a winning team. I think it's going to be a lot of fun."

"It's almost unreal that I'm going to play for the #5 team," he said. "That really hasn't hit me yet. I love following them and watching them kick butt."

Boise State to the Big East? That's the "hot" rumor of late.

"It's funny because I actually asked them about it since I was watching ESPN when they called me," he said. "They have no idea what's going on and said they were hearing all of it on TV while sitting in the hotel room. I think it's just a bunch of rumors right now, but he said their president will do what's best for the team. Personally, I certainly wouldn't mind playing in that conference."

"I would be on-board with it," said Weaver. "Playing in Houston would definitely help the program out and beating those teams that don't think Boise is a good team because their conference isn't the best would be cool."

Through eight games - he has 80 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 fumble recoveries.
