Broncos Rebound for Win over San Diego State

The resilient Boise State Broncos scored a big 52-35 road win over San Diego State. Boise State received good news when four other Top 10 teams lost yesterday.

Boise State raced to a 45-14 lead, then substituted freely in a 52-35 win last night in San Diego over San Diego State.

Kellen Moore hit on 28 of 40 passes for 366 yards and four touchdowns, three to Tyler Shoemaker as Boise State recorded its ninth victory of the year against one loss. Moore moved past Philip Rivers of North Carolina State with 13,782 career passing yards and is now tied with Graham Harrell of Texas Tech with 134 career TD passes.

An interception by Shea McClellin and a vicious hit and fumble recovery by Josh Borgman on a punt enabled the Broncos to grab an early advantage. McClellin's interception of a Ryan Lindley pass on the third play from scrimmage set of a 5-yard Moore to Shoemaker pass. Borgman's play set up an 11-yard run to paydirt by Mitch Burroughs.

SDSU's Brandon Davis returned the ensuing kickoff 17 yards before he fumbled after being hit by Blake Renaud. Corey Bell recovered for the Broncos and Moore tossed a 14-yard pass to Shoemaker for a 21-0 lead.

"It was good to start fast. I really thought we would start fast," coach Chris Petersen said. "I knew we would play hard early on. I think there were people who were concerned about the hangover effect from the last game, and I wasn't. We're going to give it all. Those turnovers really helped us.

SDSU redshirt freshman Adam Muema scored on an 81-yard run on the next possession to put the Aztecs on the board.

Moore threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Efaw and a 24-yarder to Shoemaker, and Martin scored on a 10-yard run in the second quarter. San Diego State got a 30-yard TD pass from Lindley to Gavin Escobar.

Escobar had another 30-yard TD catch in the fourth quarter. Muema scored on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter to finish with 119 yards on 13 carries. He also caught a 1-yard scoring pass from Lindley with 5 seconds to play.

Shoemaker had 10 catches for 130 yards for the Broncos and tied Austin Pettis's school record for touchdown receptions in a season with 14. Doug Martin carried 36 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns to lead the ground game.

San Diego State slipped to 6-4, 3-3 in the Mountain West Conference.

Boise State, buoyed by four losses in the Top 10, returns home for its final two games of the season.
