Steele Canyon HS ATH Chanceller James (Spring Valley, CA) verbally committed to Boise State back in late August and says he's a "perfect fit" for what the Broncos do on defense. He can play any position in the defensive secondary, is a sure tackler, and hopes to arrive in Boise with a 4.5 40 time.

"It's a perfect fit for me," he said. "What I like is how the safeties can play corner and the corners can play safety. I played corner my sophomore year and also played some nickel, down safety too. They also play as a team and I like that."

"That was a blowout," he said in regards to the Las Vegas Bowl. "I liked watching it and paid close attention to the defense. Lee Hightower is pretty good. Bryan Douglas played well too. Right after Jamar (Taylor) ran that INT back I texted him saying 'nice job.'"

"I thought the season was awesome," he said. "I'm ready for next year," he added.

DBs Coach Marcel Yates was down in Southern California for an in-home visit with James just a couple weeks ago. Defensive Coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski will also be down this week for an in-home visit

"Coach Yates came down," he stated. "It was pretty exciting. He mostly talked about living, not a lot of football stuff. It was about getting ready, lifting weights, and said I don't need to get much bigger, but a little more speed would be good. He said I have the chance to potentially start or at least earn playing time."

"My parents really like Coach Yates," said James. "They think he's a real nice guy and straight forward about everything."

"I talked to Coach K yesterday," he said. "He's coming to my house on Friday. That'll be fun."

The future Bronco has a few SDSU alumni in his family and that means the recent move to the Big East took on an even greater importance for him and his family.

"My dad is a San Diego State fan and my uncle is an SDSU alum," he said. "I know they were pretty excited about it. It all sounds really good to me. It'll be a lot traveling, but it'll be pretty cool too."

In the meantime, Chanceller says his goal is to improve his 40 time.

"I run about a 4.6 right now," said James. "My goal is to get that down to around a 4.5. I think that would really help me."

So, what will James take away from his HS career?

"Don't listen to the hype or the criticism," he said. "It doesn't matter what everybody is saying. Just keep working hard and get better at the game. Someone will always be bigger, stronger, and faster than you, but you got to continue to work hard."

The future Bronco also finished up the fall semester with a solid GPA.

"I had a 3.5 this semester."

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Chanceller James.
