Ben Weaver Is All Bronco

Klein HS LB Ben Weaver (Klein, TX) verbally committed to Boise State over the summer, but an offer from Texas A&M came in on Wednesday afternoon. The future Bronco thought about it and made the decision to stick with Boise State. Needless to say, the Bronco coaching staff has shown him a lot of love over the past few weeks.

"Coach Gregory came down today," he said. "We talked about Signing Day, a little about football, just catching up," he added.

"Coach Gregory is a great person," he stated. "He's just an all-around great guy. He wants what's best for his players and I like that."

"Coach Petersen called me a few days ago and I spoke to him twice today as well," said Weaver. "When he heard about A&M and how I was sticking with Boise State he said that was the happiest he has been in a while."

Texas A&M extended an offer to Weaver early in the afternoon on Wednesday, but he told the A&M staff that he would not be taking an official visit to College Station.

"I already told them that I won't be taking an official visit," he said. "A&M was a school I really liked early in the process, but I'm not going to give up what I have now. I'm Boise all the way."

"I'm 100% committed."

Playing time is up for grabs heading into the 2012 season and Weaver is prepared to work hard as his goal is to play as a true freshman.

"That's the big thing. I can compete right away," he said. "No one wants to sit the bench, but the earlier you can play the better. I think the progress I can make from my freshman to senior year will be incredible."

"They have an incredible defense," he said in regards to Boise State. "They're always one of the leaders in sacks. That's the type of defense I want to play in, one that is always attacking. They keep attacking. I really like that."

"The Houston Four" have become quite close over the past few months. All four committed to Boise State before their senior season and have had the chance to bond since that time.

"Oh yeah, we're close," he said. "You see all the A&M people doing their photo shoots and all of that stuff, but it's not often that you see four Houston guys going cross-country to play for Boise State. For us to do that and take some pictures was pretty fun."

Boise State has now finished in the Top 10 four times under Head Coach Chris Petersen. More than anything, that winning tradition may have put Boise State over the top.

"It's incredible and just another reason why I want to go there," he said. "Boise State is a winning program and you know you'll play in big Bowl Games if you go there. The opportunity for me is just so great. I'm already looking forward to Michigan State next year."

"It hasn't really hit me yet that I'm going to one of the top schools in the nation," he said. "It's just great for me knowing that all the hard work has paid off," he added.
