Sheldon HS DE Sam McCaskill (Eugene, OR) took an official visit to Oregon State last weekend and picked up a grayshirt offer while on his visit to Corvallis. He'll head to Boise this weekend to checkout Boise State and plans to make his college decision shortly after that. So, will Boise State extend an offer to the talented DE?

"I think they have one scholarship left for DE and are waiting out their options right now," he said. "It would be really cool if I were the one to get that offer," he added.

"Coach Gregory is coming to our house on Thursday," he stated. "I haven't met him yet, but he seems really nice over the phone. I know a couple of other coaches that have coached with him and they had nothing but nice things to say about him."

"Coach Petersen is one of the best coaches in college football and has taken that program really far," said McCaskill. "I really respect everything about him."

Head Coach Mike Riley offered McCaskill as a grayshirt last weekend.

"It was a really good visit," he said. "I got a chance to meet all the coaches and everything. It was great to be around all of the other recruits. We had a really fun time and then Coach Riley offered me a grayhirt scholarship. It was very refreshing to hear that."

"Everything is within walking distance at Oregon State," he said. "I like the whole setup of the campus. It was really nice."

So, what does McCaskill like about Boise State?

"Well, I like that they have a good football program," he said. "I want to take a look at the academics, community, and things like that while on the visit. Now I have a couple of other places I can compare it to, so we'll see what I like about that."

"Coach Gregory and Coach Petersen like knowing that the program I come from has good tradition," said McCaskill. "They like that I go hard on every play and have the ability to make big plays."

"I think I'll probably decide when I get back from Boise."

As a senior, the standout DE "quietly" racked up 15 sacks and 100+ tackles. He has flown under the radar for much of the recruiting season, but showed his playmaking ability during the 2011 season.

"I thought I had a pretty good season," he said. "I felt I was one of the leaders on the team and did a good service to the team. It took a group effort to get as far as we did, 13-1. I think we came together as a team really well."

What does Sam McCaskill (6'4, 240) bring to the gridiron?

"Well, schools like that I'm pretty athletic for a D-lineman," he said. "I could either be a slower LB or a faster DE. I enjoy rushing the passer."

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Sam McCaskill.
