De La Salle HS DE Austin Hooper (Concord, CA) picked up an offer from Boise State just a little over a week ago and the Broncos figure to be a top contender for his services. The talented DE anchors a D-line that will likely be one of the best in the country heading into the 2012 season as De La Salle looks to defend their state title crown once again.

"Boise State offered about a week and a half ago," he said. "Coach Avalos said he saw my film on YouTube, sent me a message on Facebook, and I guess they've been wanting to check out some more De La Salle guys since they've got Blake (Renaud) now."

"Coach Avalos seems like a cool guy," he stated. "It sounds like he has a really good philosophy and I've heard from Blake that Boise State is a great place. I'm going to try to get out there towards the summer."

"They have a great program," he said in regards to Boise State. "They've obviously been doing a great job over the past few years. There might be an opportunity for me to come in and compete early."

Hooper (6'4, 240, 4.75) is versatile in that he can also play TE or perhaps even LB in a 3-4 scheme, but Boise State is recruiting him as a DE.

"They want me as a DE," said Hooper. "I've got a few schools looking at me as a TE or LB. I think I could make an impact on offense as well if I'm in a system with a few more routes. I believe I could make a name for myself offensively if given the opportunity."

"As a DE, I feel like my technique against the run is very good," he said. "A lot of coaches have told me that they like how I run around and make tackles from behind."

He went on to say that he's wide open right now and will likely take at least a few official visits unless he's "blown away" by a particular school this summer.

"I'm definitely going to take a peak around the campus, see how I like it, and take a look at the Business program," he said. "Obviously, then I'll take a look at football as well. I'll see how the coaches operate and things like that."

"I'd say I'm wide open right now," said Hooper. "I think I'm going to plan on taking my official visits unless I'm blown away by a certain school."

He and his teammates will hit the practice field next month as they will look to defend their state title heading into the 2012 campaign.

"I've got a lot of things to improve on," he said. "I need to get better at reacting, lower pad level, and hand placement too. That's the big thing."

"Defensively, we should be solid this year," he said. "Offensively, we've been fortunate to have Bart Houston for the past three years, so that's a bit of a question mark. Still, we return a lot on offense...WRs, RBs, just need someone who can hand the ball off."
