Leland HS ATH Christopher Santini (San Jose, CA) signed with Boise State as a member of the 2012 recruiting class and is expected to compete for early playing time once fall camps rolls around. The talented ATH has spent the past month learning the basics of the playbook and says he'll be ready to get to work in late June.

"I've been doing a whole lot of running lately and learning the playbook," he said. "I think it's been going good. I feel much faster, in good shape, and I'm starting to understand the playbook terminology."

"The playbook is tough when you first look at it, but you have to take it section by section," he stated. "You slowly start to learn it and understand the basics as you study it more. My goal is to just remember as much as I can."

"It's tough because you have to learn what the middle 'backer is doing and everyone else too," he said. "As an OLB, you have a lot of responsibilities," he added.

Santini also keeps in close contact with LBs Coach Bob Gregory.

"I spoke to Coach Gregory about three days ago," said Santini. "He just wanted to know how the running was going, strength, and stuff like that. Basically, we were just catching up on things."

"I'm excited to play for Coach Gregory," he said. "I can tell that he really knows what he's talking about and will make me a better player. I know I have a lot to learn, but I'm just going to take in as much info as I can."

The future Bronco has been told that he'll be right in the mix for early playing time as a true freshman if he can understand the basics of the playbook heading into fall camp.

"My goal is to learn the basics," he said. "I definitely think I can learn it by then, but it's going to take some work. I've just been reading through it and everything."

"It's just the basics, but there are a lot of basics," he said with a laugh. "The defense is so complex and there are so many things to learn. You just have to take it day by day."

Santini will arrive in Boise in late June and says he'll be ready to get to work.

"I'm excited to get out there," he said. "I'm really excited to meet the rest of the team and get down to business. I'm just going to try to take in as much of the defense as I can and try to impress the coaches with my physical aspects. I'm going to lift, run, and show them I'm physically ready."

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Christopher Santini.
