West HS ATH Mat Boesen (Torrance, CA) verbally committed to Boise State on Thursday afternoon & became the ninth prospect to pledge to the Broncos for the 2013 class. The talented ATH brings versatility to Boise State as he can play DE, TE, or LB and still plans on making a second trip to The Blue in early August.

"I talked to Coach Lake about a week ago and we had a great conversation," he said. "Boise State is right up there with Alabama, LSU, and the other top schools. I was already thinking about committing right then because it was so comfortable for me on my visit."

"A couple days later I talked to Coach Lake again and committed," he stated. "I wanted to talk to Coach Gregory first, but I wasn't able to get in touch with him. Coach Lake said I made his day and then Coach Gregory said the same thing when I later spoke to him. They were both really excited and are glad to have me as a Bronco."

"I felt really comfortable on my visit," he said. "They have a great coaching staff and I felt that they really cared about me," he added.

He went on to say that a second trip to Boise is still in the works and this second trip will give his mom an opportunity to see the campus and facilities.

"We're going to try to get up there during the beginning of August," said Boesen. "I still want my mom to see the campus and meet the coaching staff."

"Basically, my mom was comfortable with what me and my dad had to say and she just wants to see it for herself. We're going to go up there again so she can check it out."

"I'm 100% committed."

Boesen says committing early will allow him to focus on his senior season from a both a football and academic standpoint.

"That's why I wanted to commit a little earlier," he said. "I want to focus more on my season, being a leader, and my academics as well."

So, what does Mat Boesen bring to the gridiron?

"Coach Gregory likes my speed and athleticism," he said. "He thinks I have a nose for the ball," he added.

He chose Boise State over an offer from San Diego State and interest from a number of other schools.
