Fruitland HS ATH Alec Dhaenens (Fruitland, ID) verbally committed to Boise State back in February and was off to a solid start in his senior season, but suffered what appears to be an ACL injury last Saturday in Fruitland's 29-22 win over Casa Roble. How did it happen? And what's next for Dhaenens?

"I went for an MRI and we're thinking that it's an ACL tear," he said. "I'll get the results back tomorrow (Thursday) and then we'll go from there if surgery is needed," he added.

"It happened on a pass play," he stated. "I was doing a drag route, Joe threw me the ball, cut back after catching it, and then I got hit right in the hip. It popped."

"It was right in the second quarter," said Dhaenens. "I came off the field, had the trainer look at it, tried to walk it off, and I think I tore it completely when I went back in on defense."

Assuming it's an ACL tear, the talented ATH says he'll have surgery and then start rehabbing as he prepares for his future at Boise State.

"I'm going to get surgery as soon as possible if it's torn," he said. "I'll start rehabbing and preparing for next football season right after that."

"I talked to Coach Huff, Coach Gregory, and Coach Avalos," said Dhaenens. "They told me that they support me and can't wait to coach me. It's real nice to know that they aren't going to go out there and recruit another TE just because I got injured. That made me feel a lot better."

"I'm 100% committed."

Alec's senior season might be finished, but you can bet the future Bronco will still be on the sidelines and encouraging his teammates for the remainder of the season.

"Now I'm just going to encourage my teammates and help them get better," he said. "I'm going to keep them motivated," he added.

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Alec Dhaenens.
