Valencia HS DE Gabe Perez (Placentia, CA) verbally committed to Boise State back in early December during his official visit to The Blue. Boise State led throughout his recruitment and a great visit to Boise sealed the deal for the Broncos. It was the "perfect fit" for Perez.

"It was the perfect fit for me," he said. "I noticed the family atmosphere right away, how everyone was close, and that's something I wanted to be a part of," he added.

"I committed when we went to eat at Coach Pete's house," he stated. "It was such a unique thing to be able to go over to his house. That was the only visit I went on where we did that. It was a great atmosphere and when I committed everyone got really excited, the wives, coaches, players, everyone."

"I talked to Coach K and watched some film with Coach Avalos," said Perez. "He talked to me a lot about the defensive stuff, where I'll fit in, what I'll be doing, and things like that. I like the position that I'll be playing a lot. It lets me blitz and come up to stop the run, but also drop back into coverage as well."

Perez and his mom also sat down with Head Coach Chris Petersen for a one-on-one meeting.

"He talked about the players he recruits, what he looks for, and that went well with me," he said. "As a person, he seems to be the type of guy that strives to be the best. He always wants to get better and better. I liked that a lot."

"I'm 100% committed."

Perez also tuned in to watch the Broncos defeat Washington in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas.

"That game was crazy," he said. "I thought it was cool since I was hanging out with the kicker (Frisina) on my visit as well and here I'm watching him kick a game winning field goal. I thought the guys on defense really stepped up. Knowing they were down a starter made them step up and play that much harder. Overall, I thought they played well."

So, what can Bronco fans expect to see from Gabe Perez?

"With my athleticism, I can drop back into coverage and stop the running game," he said. "From a defensive standpoint, I feel I can do it all," he added.
