William J. Brennan HS LB Grant Watanabe (San Antonio, TX) currently holds offers from Colorado and Utah, but a number of other schools have also been showing interest, including Boise State. The talented LB was in Boise this past weekend for the Junior Day event and says he came away impressed with the program, campus, and atmosphere.

"We got there a day early so we could see everything," he said. "I remember getting ambushed by all of the coaches as soon as I got there and that really got my attention," he added.

"I spent the most time with Coach Gregory," he stated. "He showed me around the campus, the facilities, and basically what they were going to show everyone at Junior Day. What really impressed me is how they were able to win with the facilities they currently have because when you compare it to what they're building it's really amazing. Their new football building is going to be really nice."

"What I really like about Boise State is how the coaches want to get to know the guys before offering," said Watanabe. "They want to get to know those guys and make sure it's the right choice for them."

He went on to say that LBs Coach Bob Gregory will be down in Texas during spring practice to watch him live and an offer could come shortly after that.

"Coach Gregory wants to see me live," he said. "They're only looking to take a couple LBs in this class and told me I'm one of their top targets. Coach Gregory told me I'm the only player outside of his recruiting area that he's coming to watch."

"What stands out to me about Boise State is how they play with so much heart," said Watanabe. "They play with that chip on their shoulder, the underdog, and I like that. They go and beat these top schools on the road and they always show up for those tough games. It takes heart to do that."

Would Boise State be a strong contender for Watanabe should they offer?

"They'll definitely be up there," he said. "Colorado was my favorite visit before going up there and Boise State was just so much better. It really impressed me how their APR rate is so high, the players have a close relationship with the coaching staff, and the whole team atmosphere in Boise. I really liked it all."

So, what does Grant Watanabe (5'11, 225, 4.7) bring to the gridiron?

"I play with passion," he said. "To play LB you have to have passion, intensity, and football smarts," he added.
