La Habra HS DT Greg Gaines (La Habra, CA) picked up an offer from Boise State just a month ago and was in Boise last weekend for the Junior Day event. The talented DT is currently one of the top prospects on the Bronco recruiting board and now has Boise State on top following his visit to The Blue.

"They're my top school right now," he said. "We got there on Wednesday night, visited the campus on Thursday morning, toured the facilities, watched practice, and attended the Junior Day on Saturday," he added.

"The defense they run at Boise State is basically the same one that we run at La Habra," he stated. "I thought the stadium was real nice, liked the blue field, and I thought their sky center was just unbelievable. The indoor practice field was really cool and the new football building will be amazing."

"I got to talk to Coach Petersen for a while," said Gaines. "He might be the nicest guy I've ever met. He explained his program and a lot about what they're looking for and it really reminded me of La Habra."

Greg's father is a police officer and likes knowing that Boise is a safe environment for his son.

"My dad loves it," he said. "As a police officer, he only sees the bad in people and California is probably the worst place for crime. He likes that you can walk anywhere in Boise and feel safe. We also like to do a lot of outdoor things and Boise is about as good as it gets for that. He loves the coaches too."

The Boise State coaching staff also compared Gaines to former Bronco Shea McClellin.

"They told me that I remind them a lot of Shea McClellin," he said. "They like my size, explosiveness, and the fact that I have long arms. They think I'm versatile like he was."

And could Gaines also see some playing time in the backfield for the Bronco offense?

"I played RB a good bit up until a couple years ago," said Gaines. "They talked about putting me at FB and including me as an extra blocker. I'm good at that. I blocked for Aaron Porter when he was here."

Gaines is still open right now as far as recruiting goes, but Boise State is definitely the top school on his list.

"I loved everything about it," he said. "It was definitely a school where I could see myself playing at," he added.
