Marcel Christmas Boise State

Multiple sources, both in Texas and locally in Boise, are reporting that current Texas A&M Co-Defensive Coordinator, Marcel Yates, will return home to his Alma Mater to take over the reins of the Boise State defense. Yates is one of the very best Defensive Coaches in D1 Ball, transforming Boise State into 'DBU' (Defensive Back Univ.) during his previous tenure with the Broncos.

Marcel Yates has long been considered a great Defensive Back's Coach, but now he will put his own personal stamp on the Boise State defense overall as he takes over as the Defensive Coordinator for the Broncos.

Yates, who coached at Boise State under former Coach Chris Petersen, left the Broncos in 2012 to join Kevin Sumlin at TAMU as the Co-Defensive Coordinator, but Petersen's departure opened the door for a new staff to be assembled on the Blue, and Bryan Harsin looked only one place.

Multiple sources had Yates not only as Harsin's favorite for the Defensive Coordinator position, but he was also rumored to be Dirk Koetter's choice for DC as well, had he gotten the nod for the Head Coaching position over Harsin.

Yates returns to a Bronco defense that struggled at times last year, but the Broncos also return a Defense stocked with lots of youth and lots of talent. Boise State, last season, started 2 Freshmen (one a True Freshman) at Linebacker, and had True Freshmen see extensive time at both CB and Defensive End.

Now, the job of melding all that youth and talent into a formidable Defense falls into Yate's talented hands.

The Holiday Season is not the only reason for Boise State fans to rejoice. Welcome Home, Coach Yates.
