Broncos Are The Champions of the MWC

Boise State jumped out to a commanding 4 Touchdown lead Saturday night on the Blue, and then backed off the throttle to milk the clock, coasting to a 28-14 win over Fresno State in the 2014 Mountain West Championship Game.

On what was the last game on the Blue for Boise State's senior class, it was fitting that the Offensive MVP of the game was redshirt Senior QB Grant Hedrick, who gashed Fresno's defense for 2 long touchdown runs. Hedrick would end the night with 81 yards rushing and 155 yards passing. Jay Ajayi, who is believed to be leaning towards entering the NFL Draft after the season, rushed for 70 yards, equaling the entire rushing output for the Bulldogs.

 The Blue and Orange Store

Boise State's defense was the epitome of bend-but-not-break for most the night, giving up yards and successful 3rd down attempts all game long, but holding Fresno scoreless until the 4th Quarter, when they went into prevent mode to make Fresno eat clock. Fresno State took advantage of that defensive shift, scoring 2 touchdowns and recovering an onside kick, to make things interesting.. but the Bronco's time consuming strategy ultimately proved a wise choice as Fresno State saw their final two possessions end on downs and an INT by Beau Martin that sealed the win.

Boise State's defense was led by Tanner Vallejo who recorded 13 tackles and a Pick-6, earning him Defensive MVP honors for the game.

Boise State is now expected to represent the so-called 'Gang of 5' in one of the New Years Six bowl games against a likely Top-10 Power 5 Team. Announcements will be made Sunday night, but speculation puts the Broncos back in the friendly confines of the Fiesta Bowl, where the Broncos are undefeated.. going 2-0 against Oklahoma and TCU.
