With offers from Boise State, Houston, UTEP, Fresno State, Cal-Poly, Indiana State, Rice, Sam Houston State and Texas State, plus interest from Creighton, the 6-foot-4, 170-pound Armoni Brooks is focusing on just a trio of schools.
"(Boise State, UTEP and Houston) are the three I'm really eyeing," Brooks said.
Brooks, an incoming senior at McNeil High School, is scheduled to visit UTEP Sept. 5 and Boise State Sept. 18. He is also trying to set up dates for Houston, and potentially Fresno State and Creighton.
"I'm waiting to see what happens within the next few weeks for all my visits," he said.
Brooks' most recent offer is from Boise State, a university that has been communicating with him since March. He says the Broncos immediately became one of his top schools as soon as the offer came.
"I really like them," Brooks said. "They are talking to me about the academics at Boise and how great the school is. They've been really honest to me about what they see in me."
The Lone Star athlete knows exactly what he is looking for in a school, and it extends beyond the hardwood. He also plans on committing "no later than December," after he has taken his visits.
"I want them to have my major, which is kinesiology," Brooks said. "I'm looking for an opportunity to come in and have an impact right away."
