The Boise State volleyball team welcomes Northwestern, Texas A&M--Corpus Christi and Idaho State this week for the Boise State Invitational in Bronco Gym. All four teams are formidable conenders in their respective conferences, and it makes for outstanding competition in the tournament.
Northwestern, from the Big Ten Conference, went 3-0 in the Maverick Classic last week. Texas A&M--Corpus Christi also sports a record of 3-0 after winning the Rambler Challenge, while Idaho State is favored to win the Big Sky Conference.
Boise State hosts Idaho State Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Bronco Gym, just south of Taco Bell Arena. The Broncos will then meet A&M Friday night at 5 (make it a doubleheader just prior to the football game with Washington) before taking on Northwestern Saturday night at 5.
Coach Shawn Garus' Broncos return six key starters from last year's 18-12 squad, including three All-Mountain West Conference selections, senior setter Sarah Baugh, sophomore outside hitter Sierra Nobley and middle blocker Maddy O'Donnell. Nobley also earned Freshman of the Year in the Mountain West, and Kaitlyn Oliver, named Mountain West Newcomer of the Year last year, is also back this fall for Boise State.
In the tournament's other games, Northwestern meets Idaho State Friday at 2:30, Northwestern battles Texas A&M Saturday at noon and A&M faces Idaho State Saturday at 2:30.
