Broncos Score Big Win

The Boise State volleyball team may have lost to Big Sky favorite Idaho State Friday, but the Broncos made up for it with a sweep over Northwestern.

BOISE--The Boise State volleyball team swept Northwestern 25-12, 25-21, 25-23 tonight in Bronco Gym in the finale of the Boise State Invitational.

Sierra Nobley led her team in kils for the sixth consecutive game with 10, while Maddy O'Donnell and Kaitlin Oliver had eight each for the Broncos.  Maddi Osborn led Boise State with 12 digs, with Nobley chipping in with 8.  Kayla Morin had 8 kills for Northwestern.  Senior Sarah Baugh joined Oliver on the all-tournament team.  Baugh dished out 34 assists and had five kills and four blocks for the Broncos in beating Northwestern.

"I am really excited that we had the opportunity to play a Big Ten team her in Boise in front of our fans," said head coach Shawn Garus.  "I think everyone saw from the warm ups on that they were a big physical team and it was going to be a good match-up. I give our players a lot of credit for coming out with great intensity and sustaining it throughout the whole match to get the big win."

Coach Garus's team advanced its record to .500 for the first time this season at 3-3.  Northwestern, which came into the weekend undefeated at 3-0, also lost to Idaho State.

Boise State heads to the North Texas Invitational next weekend against North Texas, Houston and Abilene Christian.
