Sarah Baugh Looking for Great Senior Season for Boise State Broncos Volleyball Team

As Boise State is just about ready to make a push for the Mountain West Conference title, they are blessed to have senior setter Sarah Baugh.

Being the setter on a volleyball team is something like a point guard in basketball, in that the setter surveys the defense, looks for the best opportunities to score, then sets the ball up for a teammate to do just that.

Boise State senior Sarah Baugh is very good at it.  Baugh got into Bronco coach Shawn Garus' starting rotation as a freshman, and she has 60 starts to her credit entering this weekend.

Baugh really came into her own last season, totaling 1,209 assists, which ranks #2 in Boise State history, and posting an attack percentage of 37.3%, third all-time at Boise State for a single season.  Sarah was named to all-tournament teams for the Northwest Challenge and the Islander Classic (where she was also named Most Valuable Player), and was honored to be on the All-Mountain West Team at the end of the season.

Baugh is a multi-talented student-athlete, not only ranking third in career assists with 2,425, but 12th in service aces and 14th in digs.

This season, Baugh has high hopes for her senior year.  In nine matches thus far, Sarah is the runaway leader in the Mountain West Conference with 11.39 assists per game, and she is averaging .39 service aces per set, which ranks fourth in the Mountain West Conference.

Garus points out that the best way to judge a setter is by the team's attack percentage, which is a conference-leading 28.1% thus far this season for the Broncos, and said Baugh's value to the team is also exemplified by her serving ability.

Baugh was a four-year starter for North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo, Washington, leading her team to a 69-19 record and two consecutive berths in the Washington state tournament, the only two in school history.  Sarah finished her career as the school's record holder in kills (1,408), aces (259), blocks (102) and digs (920), while ranking second all-time in assists with 1,084.

Baugh is the type of teammate everyone wants to have, and exactly what the Broncos need, according to junior Maddy O'Donnell in the video above.  Sarah has a lot going for her--in addition to her prowess on the court, she is a three-time Academic All-Mountain West selection and two-time MW Scholar Athlete for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or above.

Baugh and the Broncos have three more non-conference tests this weekend in Phoenix, Arizona (against Northern Arizona, UC Riverside and host Grand Canyon) before Boise State starts Mountain West play next week.
