Boise State Bronco Women 2nd, Men 3rd at Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships

The Bronco women finished second today at the Mountain West Championships, with #1 New Mexico winning for an eighth straight year. The Boise State men were third after champion Air Force and second-place Colorado State.

RENO, Nevada--The Boise State women's cross country team, rated #9 in the nation, finished second today at the Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships.  Freshman Allie Ostrander led the Bronco women by winning the individual title by a large margin.  Ostrander earned MW Female Athlete of the Year, Freshman of the Year and All-Mountain West honors for her performance.

Ostrander made a move at about the 4-kilometer mark to leave the field behind, winning in a time of 21:49.97.

The Bronco men aimed to wrestle the title away from six-time defending champion New Mexico and, while they beat the Lobos, the young Boise State team finished third today with 56 points.  Air Force captured the men's title with 49 points followed by Colorado State with 53.  Wyoming was fourth with 89 points, followed by New Mexico with 120, San Jose State with 159, Fresno State with 205 and Utah State with 220.

The Bronco women finished second as New Mexico, the #1 team in the nation, finished first with 24 points to 71 for second-place Boise State.  Air Force was third with 98 points, followed by Colorado State (106), Wyoming (129), Utah State with 144, Nevada with 149, San Jose State witih 218, San Diego State with 267, UNLV with 299 and Fresno State with 312.  

Individually, Boise State's Brenna Peloquin finished ninth and Anna Holdiman 11th for the Bronco women to both earn All-Mountain West Second-Team.  

Michael Vennard, who finished fifth, earned All-Mountain West honors for the Broncos, while teammates Elijah Armstrong, Chandler Austin and Rhys Park all earned second-team honors.  Armstrong also received Freshman of the Year recognition from the Mountain West.
