Boise State Bronco Darian Thompson Earns Second Team All-America Honor From Phil Steele

Thompson adds another honor for his trophy case.

BOISE, Idaho--Boise State senior safety Darian Thompson has been named to Phil Steele's All-America Second Team today, Thompson's fourth All-America honor of the year.

Thompson was named to the Third Team by the Associated Press, the Second Team by the FWAA and Honorable Mention by Sports Illustrated.  Thompson now has five All-America honors in his career after being named Second Team by last season.

Thompson leads Boise State with five interceptions, 17th in the nation and four behind national leader Shawun Lurry of Northern Illinois.  Thompson's fifth INT of the season allowed him to pass Eric Weddle of Utah as the all-time leader in the Mountain West Conference.  Thompson is also second on the Broncos with 63 tackles (35 of them solo) and tied for third with 7.5 tackles-for-loss.

Steele also released the 2015 All-Mountain West team today with 11 Broncos chosen.  Quarterback Brett Rypien, center Marcus Henry tackle Rees Odhiambo wide receiver Thomas Sperbeck, Thompson, STUD end Kamalei Correa,  cornerback Donte Deayon and placekicker Tyler Rausa were named to the first team.

Running back Jeremy McNichols and linebacker Tanner Vallejo were named to the second team, with tight end Jake Roh placed on the third team.

Boise State meets Northern Illinois next Wednesday, December 23 in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.
