Although Mike Young's scholarship offer list isn’t as long as some, his focus runs deep, and his resolve is untouchable. Aside from Boise State, Young has pulled in offers from Adams State, New Mexico State, UNLV, and Utah State. Interest is gaining momentum, with the likes of SDSU, Arizona, ASU, SJSU, Hawaii, and Army all getting in the mix.
Even with interest picking up steam by the day, Young is focused and determined to be successful “both in the classroom, and on the field”. In fact, an education is at the top of Young’s list of determining factors for his upcoming commitment. The gigantic left tackle wants to be an engineer: and that is the most important thing on his mind. “My main goal is to focus on next-level education, and then my dream is to play in the NFL”.
Mike also isn’t distracted by the media or the intrigue he is garnering among top-level programs. “I don’t let the media get to me like some people do. I’m still in high school and I need to focus on me”, said Young as we discussed his impending commitment. Mike hopes to make his announcement before the start of his senior season. He will be taking an official visit to Boise State sometime around the end of August or beginning of September.
There are some critical factors in where Young will ultimately land for college ball. He’s looking for “good people to be surrounded by, team chemistry, a solid coaching staff, a good community, and a great school”. Additionally, Mike is looking for sincerity in his recruitment, especially from the coaches that are constantly courting him.
Mike is looking forward to his upcoming senior season of football, but is also ready to make an impact at the next level. “Nothing is going to stop me. I’ll do whatever they want me to do”, said Young regarding his focus and determination to make an immediate impact wherever he lands. Mike is a special kind of talent; one that doesn’t begin and end on the football field. His work ethic is part of everything he does, and is not limited to only his dreams of football glory.
For now, Mike is enjoying the ride, and looking forward to what may be in store for him at the next level. “I’m blessed that God gave me this opportunity, this size to play this game. I’m just truly blessed”.
