Boise State Leap Frogs Dozens Despite Only 20 Years Of D1 Football

In an effort to determine the 100 greatest college football program of all-time, the Associated Press created a metric that counted poll appearances (one point) to mark consistency, No. 1 rankings (two points) to acknowledge elite programs, and then gave a bonus for AP national championships (10 points). Over 80 years of rankings were used to determine the order, consisting of 1,103 polls.

Boise State, despite only having been Division 1A (FBS) for just 20 years, has leapt past many other Programs that have decades on the Broncos.. including Louisville, Oregon State, and Utah. Boise State, at #60 overall, is also the 5th highest ranked Non-P5 program on the list, behind only BYU, Army, Houston, and SMU.. despite having at least 4 decades less applicable time for consideration than all 4.

Only 6 other MWC programs made the list, (AFA-66, Wyoming-70, Fresno State-71, Colorado State-76, Hawaii-92, and Nevada-98)

The list:

  1. Ohio State: 77.24 percent of all AP polls
