Bronco Spring Ball Battles: Offensive Line

What does a team do when it loses five senior offensive linemen to graduation, along with bidding farewell to its position coach days before spring camp begins?

Well, in Boise State’s case, that team get's to work and worries about those things later.

It doesn’t hurt that the Broncos have loads of talent waiting in the wings for their time to shine in the trenches. All five positions on the offensive line are up for grabs, and the competition will be fierce. Redshirt sophomore John Molchon and redshirt seniors Archie Lewis and Mason Hampton appear to have a leg up to start in the fall, and redshirt sophomores Garrett Larson and Eric Quevedo, redshirt freshman Ezra Cleveland and redshirt junior Andres Preciado are in contention to see time as well.

Incoming junior college All-American Isiah Moore seems like a lock to start immediately as his signing with the Broncos was a huge coup on signing day, turning down multiple Pac12 offers, as well as a host of others, to stay true to his pledge to the Blue. Also, don't overlook JC Transfer Zach Troughton, and senior Andrew Tercek, both of whom will undoubtedly provide quality depth if they are unable to push for a starting spot.

Other “trench dogs” who are vying for time include true freshmen John Ojukwu and walkon Jake Stetz (both very likely to redshirt), and redshirt freshmen Donte Harrington, Austin Dixon, Ben Vering and Kole Bailey

As mentioned above, Boise State lost offensive line coach Scott Huff to the University of Washington a few days before spring ball started. Head coach Bryan Harsin used graduate assistant Nate Potter and director of program development Chris Ross stepped in during the first week of camp, but the Broncos moved quickly and brought former NFL player Brad Bedell into the fold. Bedell worked with Harsin at Arkansas State and has made coaching stops at a number of other schools before donning the blue and orange.

Things in the trenches resumed a sense of normalcy when Bedell started on Monday, March 13.

Here is BroncoCountry’s best guess as to who will start on the offensive line when Boise State faces Troy on Sept. 2:

Left Tackle —Isiah Moore
Left Guard — John Molchon
Center — Mason Hampton
Right Guard — Garrett Larson
Right Tackle — Archie Lewis
