Redlands East Valley HS WR Billy Bowens (Redlands, CA) picked up an offer from Boise State a few months ago and has the Broncos as one of three programs currently standing out for his services. The talented WR believes he can be a key playmaker in the Boise State offense.
"Coach Kiesau is recruiting me from Boise State," he stated. "He and I have a really good relationship. He's very down-to-earth, energetic, and thinks I could make a big impact in the offense."
"I'm going to try to get up to Boise this summer for a visit," said Bowens. "If not, definitely for an official visit this fall."
Why Boise State? Simply put, the Broncos win.
"They win games," he said. "Their offense definitely stands out as well. They also have great new facilities. All of my coaches and peers have been telling me that Boise State is a school I definitely need to check out."
"Coach Kiesau likes that I'm explosive," said Bowens. "He says he likes how I can make one cut and go, and that I can always get open."
The Boise State coaching staff has Bowens at or near the top of the recruiting board at WR and that's evident by the fact that the coaching staff sent Coach Kiesau down to Redlands, CA to visit Bowens at his school this past week.
"Coach Kiesau was just here on Thursday," he said. "He came down to see me, talk to me, and wanted to make sure I was interested. He gave me a brochure about Boise State. He said they are real excited about me."
A winning environment is one of the top priorities for the talented WR when looking at the schools currently recruiting him.
"I'm looking for a school that wins and one that is a great fit for me," he said. "I want to make sure that I'm going to a school that will help me grow as a person and player. I want to learn from the best."
"Ideally, I'd like to commit before my senior season," he said. "If not, I'll take my visits and make sure that I'm making the right decision," he added.
Redlands East Valley finished the 2016 season with a 9-3 record. That's a solid season, but Bowens (6'1, 175, 4.4) believes the team can accomplish more in 2017.
"We can definitely do better this season," said Bowens. "Last season was my first playing WR. I was a QB before that. Now that I've learned the position I feel that I can be a leader for our team and help us win more games."
So, what does the talented WR bring to the gridiron?
"I use my speed to get open," he said. "I explode off the ball, run good routes, and use my hands and eyes to make the catch," he added.
As a junior, he racked up 1,200 receiving yards and 19 TDs.
