Boise State accepted an invitation today to play the University of Louisville on December 31st, 2004 at 1:30 MST on ESPN.

The game will match 2 Top 10 ranked BCS teams in the #8 Cardinals and the #7 Broncos.

In what could very easily end up being one of the most attractive Bowl matchups of the season, Boise State and Louisville meet for the 2nd time Post-Season.

This time around, both teams have more national respect, with both of them being just outside the BCS, and with Louisville being ranked #7/8 and Boise State #10/11.

In 1999, the Broncos were winners of the Big West Conference. Louisville traveled to the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise to meet the Broncos. In a game that saw numerous lead changes and big plays, (kickoff returned for a TD, INT for a TD), Boise State escaped with a 34-31 victory over the Cardinals.

In that game, a young freshman named Brock Forsey, seeing his most action of the season, was named the game's most valuable player and Boise State quarterback Bart Hendricks outdueled Louisville's Chris Redman, who was with the Baltimore Ravens for 3 seasons.

Hendricks, who didn't have an interception, was 20-of-39 for 335 yards and a touchdown. He also seemed to come up with big plays when the Broncos needed them most, scrambling for a first down or finding an open receiver.

Forsey ran for 86 yards in the second half, with a 26-yard burst that keyed the game-winning drive. He also returned two kickoffs for 67 yards and caught two passes for 50 yards.

Redman was 26-of-47 for 314 yards but his three interceptions, one returned 80 yards for a TD by Shaunard Harts, were too much for the Cardinals to overcome. Redman, who at the time established NCAA career records with 1,031 completions and 1,679 attempts, was selected Louisville's MVP.

Louisville also limited its chances by committing 14 penalties for 120 yards.

Boise State took the lead for good when Davy Malaythong ran up the middle for a 5-yard touchdown with 9:28 to play.

Then, when Boise State's Kareem Williams intercepted Redman's pass with 46 seconds to play, the crowd of 29,283 erupted in cheers while the Broncos jumped and danced on the sideline.
