Commitment Update: Cody Hawkins

Bishop Kelly QB Cody Hawkins (Boise, ID) committed to the Boise State Football Program on July 28th. Many felt that it was only a matter of time before he committed to Boise State due to his Dad being the Head Coach. Cody spoke to about his recruitment, the Georgia game, the upcoming game against Oregon State, and his current season.

Bishop Kelly QB Cody Hawkins (Boise, ID) is considered one of the top QB prospects in the Country by Hawkins currently holds a three star ranking and was named to the EA Sports Elite 11. Are any school still trying to recruit him?

"I haven't talked to anyone since I committed to Boise State," he said. "I'm firm on Boise State." Before choosing Boise State, Cody also had an offer from Oregon. He also said Wisconsin and BYU were very close to offering.

There were a few factors that played into his decision besides the obvious one of his Dad being the Head Coach. "They have a great offense and a lot of support for the program," he said. "Everyone works hard for what they earn." Another factor that played into his decision was the fact that Boise State has Oregon on the schedule in a few years. "I didn't want to play against my Dad," he said. "That was a factor in my decision."

Cody is working hard to recruit some other players to the Boise State program. He has developed a friendship with Stanley Havili and the two have been friends for about two years. "Me and Stanley became friends at a football camp about two years ago," he said. "Me and him always seem to go to the same camp. I'm trying to recruit him to Boise State."

Cody made the trip to Athens for the Georgia game and offered his thoughts on the performance. "You can't turn the ball over six times and expect to win," he said. "They just didn't play their game." The future Bronco was in the locker room after the game and offered a few thoughts on the post-game speech his Dad gave. "My Dad said in 2002 we lost badly to Arkansas and we ended up winning every other game. He just said that everyone needs to put this game behind them and move on. It's time to focus on Oregon State."

Hawkins and his Bishop Kelly teammates know all about winning as they won the 4A State Championship last season. Cody and his team are off to another great start as they are currently 2-0. "We played Skyview last game," he said. "I was 14-16 for 310 yards and 4 TDs. They have some good running backs, but our defense shut them out 34-0." Bishop Kelly will play Lewiston this Friday.

Cody will greyshirt and enter in Spring 2007. "I'm fine with greyshirting," he said. "That just gives me more time to get better." will keep all subscribers updated on Cody's performance and his Boise State game thoughts each week throughout the season.
