Broncos Turn Back New Mexico State 73-63

After a heartbreaking loss at the buzzer Thursday against Louisiana Tech, Boise State needed to bounce back in a big way against New Mexico State. Thanks to a swarming defense and the sharpshooting of Coby Karl, they got the W.

Junior Coby Karl tossed in 22 points and had 8 rebounds as Boise State's men's basketball team scored an impressive 73-63 win over New Mexico State yesterday afternoon in Taco Bell Arena. Karl excelled down the stretch for Coach Graham's Broncos, with 17 of his points coming in the second half. Karl's 2 3-pointers in the final three minutes provided separation from what had been a close contest as the teams headed down the stretch. Coby hit 6-2 from the field, with 4 3-pointers. Backcourt mate Eric Lane also grabbed 8 rebounds as Boise State outrebounded the Aggies 42-33.

Forward Tyler Tiedeman was the only other Bronco in double figures, as he matched a career-high with 13 points on 5-5 shooting before fouling out. Boise State's defense played as well as it has at any point this season, holding the Aggies to just 38% from the floor.

Boise State moves to 8-5 on the season and 1-1 in Western Athletic Conference play while New Mexico State slides to 5-8 and 1-1. The Broncos hit the road next week for games against Utah State and WAC favorite Nevada.
