Bronco Gymnastics Team Set to Debut Season

Two-time all-around NCAA Championship contender Lindsay Ward leads a young Bronco gymnastics squad into the upcoming season. Here's a look at Coach Sandmire's Broncos!

After losing a good portion of its senior-dominated squad from last season, Boise State must now rebuild. The 2006 Broncos will have just 2 seniors and 2 juniors. Boise State finished last season ranked 22nd in the nation after placing 5th at the NCAA West Region Gymnastics Championships in Corvallis. It was the 19th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regionals for Boise State. The Broncos open the 2006 campaign January 13th at 7 p.m. against Arizona State. Here's a look at this year's Broncos!

 

Lindsay Ward, Junior--2005: An NCAA National Championship qualifier for her second straight year, finishing 42nd. ... also won the Western Gymnastics Conference titles in the all-around and on the vault, bars and beam (beam tied with teammate Kristin Aldrich) ... also named conference Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 31 through Feb. 6 ... named to the WGC all-academic team ... named WGC Gymnast of the Year ... season high 39.475 is 10th on the all-time career best lists at Boise State.

2004: An NCAA National Championships qualifier in the all-around as a true freshman ... tied the school record on floor (9.95) and set a school record in the all-around (39.625) ... named to the Western Gymnastics Conference all-league team as well as to the WGC all-academic team ... her all-around score at regionals to qualify her to nationals was 39.35. Ward won the all-around and beam against #13 BYU, 2nd in the all-around, vault and the bars against Cal State-Fullerton and won the all-around and beam and placed 2nd in the vault, bars and floor against #21 Washington.

 

Kea Cuaresma, Senior--2005: A Western Gymnastics Conference All-Academic honoree ... season bests as a junior included a 9.875 on Feb. 26 on vault and a 9.875 on floor on March 11.

2004: Honored as an all-conference awardee after finishing fifth on vault at the WGC championships with a score of 9.8.

2003: The conference champion on vault with a career high 9.975, and co-champion on floor with a 9.9 ... one of the Broncos top returning all-arounders ... other career highs during the season included two 9.875's on bars, 9.85 on beam on Mar. 14, 9.95 on floor on Mar. 21, and 39.45 in the all-around also on Mar. 21

 

Kristen Aldrich, Junior--2005: A Western Gymnastics Conference All-Academic honoree ... tied for first on the beam in the conference championship with teammate Lindsay Ward ... season bests included a 9.775 on vault on Feb. 25 and a 9.9 on beam twice.

2004: A steady contributor for Boise State on vault, beam and floor ... as a freshman posted season highs of 9.8 on vault, 9.875 on beam and 9.825 on floor.

 

Katie Dinsmore, Senior--2005: A Western Gymnastics Conference All-Academic honoree ... top scores as a junior included 9.85 on vault twice and 9.85 on beam on March 11.

2004: Contributed for Boise State on vault and beam as a sophomore ... named to the Western Gymnastics Conference All-Academic Team.

2003: As a freshman in 2003, competed on vault, beam and floor regularly and in the all-around once ... named to the Western Gymnastics Conference All-Academic Team ... career highs included three 9.7's on vault, 9.85 twice on beam and 9.8 on floor.

 

Tara Oberg, Junior--2005: A competitor for the Broncos on vault and beam as a sophomore.

S004: Contributed for the Broncos on the vault in 2004.

High School: Graduated from Ulen-Hitterdal High School in 2003 ... a member of the National Honor Society ... graduating class Valedictorian.

 

Alyssa Daly, Sophomore--2005: Contributed on the bars as a freshman ... season best was a 9.775 on March 11.

High School: Graduated from University High School in 2004 ... a member of the National Honor Society and that club's Sargeant at Arms.

 

Katie Griffis, Sophomore--2005: A consistent performer for the Broncos on bars with a season high of 9.8 as a true freshman.

 

Alia Loan, Sophomore--2005: A member of the Bronco team as a freshman ... named to the Western Gymnastics Conference All-Academic Team.

High School: Graduated from Auburn Riverside High School in 2004 ... a member of the honor roll.

 

Courtney Achter, Freshman-- High School: Graduated from Bishop McGuiness High School in Greensboro, North Carolina in 2005.

Club: Trained at High Point Gymnastics Academy with coaches Rob Travers and Buddy Thorburn ... competed in the Junior Olympic National Championships.

 

Tessa Campbell, Freshman--High School, Colorado Springs, CO: Graduated from Doherty High School in 2005 ... graduated with high academic honors.

 

Shaniece Craft, Freshman--High School: Graduated from Arapahoe High School in 2005 ... graduated with high honors ... a member of the National Honor Society.

 

Taylor Jacob, Freshman, Whittier, CA--High School: Graduated from La Habra High School in 2005 ... a member of the honor roll ... graduated with a 4.0 GPA.

Club: Trained at Scats Diamond Elite Gymnastics Club with coaches Trent and Jill Spaulding and Tiffaney Henry ... the 2005 Level 10 Southern California vault, bars and all-around champion ... also competed at the Junior Olympic National Championships where her top finish was seventh place on bars in 2005.

 

Amber Neroes, Freshman, Plano, TX--High School: Graduated from Plano Christian Academy in 2005 ... graduated ranked third in her class.

Club: Trained at University of Gymnastics with coaches Igor Carvalho and Lisa Torrain ... competed at the Olympic Junior National Championships ... at 2005, was the Level 10 National Vault Champion.

 

Ashli Rainboth, Freshman, Nampa--High School: Graduated from Skyview High School in 2005 ... her graduating class Valedictorian.
