For the third time in four matches, Boise State's wrestling team has gone down to defeat. Decimated by injuries, the Broncos were victim to Oregon State this afternoon in Bronco Gym by a score of 25-10. Oregon State improved to 4-1 in the PAC-10 and 7-2-1 overall while Boise State slipped to 6-4 and 2-3 in the PAC-10.
Thanks to two major decisions and a pin, Oregon State jumped out to an early 13-0 and was never headed.
Tyler Sherfey got Boise State on the scoreboard when he recorded a 3-1 decision over Derek Kipperberg at the 149-pound weight class. Bronco Ben Cherrington, ranked 13th in the nation, followed Sherfey's win with an 18-5 major decision over Orlando Perez at 157 pounds.
But K.C. Walsh at 184 pounds was the only Bronco to win in the final five matches of the afternoon.
Thankfully, the Broncos have a couple of weeks off to heal before traveling to UC Davis on February 4. The next home match for Boise State is Friday, February 10 against Portland State.
