Broncos Lose Momentum, Game to Louisiana Tech

Foul trouble for Boise State's Tez Banks and a disastrous lineup change added up to defeat for the Broncos in Ruston.

After running out to an impressive 13-7 lead in Ruston against Louisiana Tech, a new lineup took the floor for Boise State and the results were disastrous. Tech went on a 24-4 run en route to an 81-71 victory over the Broncos last night.

Louisiana Tech (15-9, 8-3 in the Western Athletic Conference) outscored Boise State 34-20 in the paint, grabbing 18 offensive rebounds after getting 23 offensive boards in an early season win in Boise.

Coby Karl led Boise State (12-10 and 5-6 in the WAC) with 20 points, but committed eight of Boise State's 16 turnovers. The Bronco star had his pocked picked repeatedly by Daevon Haskins of Louisiana Tech. As pointed out in a BroncoCountry article prior to the game, Haskins game into the contest with Boise State second in the WAC in steals with 41. Eric Lane added 14 points and four steals, while Matt Bauscher had 10 points.

Tez Banks propelled the Broncos to their early lead, with six points and six rebounds in the first 13 minutes But the Bronco big man was whistled for his third foul with 7:07 to play. He spent the rest of the half on the bench, effectively throttling any chance for Boise State to win the game as Tech outrebounded the Broncos 48-32 without him. Banks finished with nine points and eight rebounds.

Corey Dean led four Louisiana Tech players in double figures with 14 and six assists. Haskins had 12 points, six assists and five steals, Paul Millsap had 10 points and 16 rebounds, and Chad McKenzie and Trey McDowell had 10 points each.
