Torrid Karl on Scoring Rampage

Boise State's Coby Karl has paced the Bronco basketball team in scoring nearly every game this season and has gone on a recent scoring surge, averaging over 21 points per game in the last five games. That run has propelled the junior to 10th place all-time on the Bronco scoring list, passing a pretty impressive group in the process. He's also moving up in several other categories.

Coby Karl continued his climb up the Boise State basketball record books, passing former Bronco great and NBA player John Coker for 10th place on the all-time Bronco scoring list. With 1143 points, Karl now trails Boise State Hall of Famer and current Stanford basketball coach Trent Johnson by just 12 points going into Wednesday's game at New Mexico State.

The Bronco junior began the season outside the top 15, but his consistent scoring (17.5 points per game) has propelled him past Bronco greats Greg Bunn, Ron Austin, Bryan Defares, Danny Jones and now Coker. With a minimum of six games remaining this season, Karl can move up to 6th place all-time at his season pace. That would move Karl past Johnson, Pat Hoke, Gerry Washington and Vince Hinchen and put him behind only Tanoka Beard, Steve Connor, Abe Jackson, Chris Childs and Roberto Bergersen on the all-time scoring list at Boise State.

After hitting 5 of 11 3-pointers against Hawai'i yesterday, Karl has passed Mike Tolman for 3rd place on that list and now has 172 3-pointers in his 2 1/2 years at Boise State. He is rapidly moving up in that category, just having passed all-time greats Chris Childs and Roberto Bergersen. Backcourt mate Eric Lane has hit 41 3-pointers himself this year, giving him a total of 129.

Coby also has 283 career free throws made, and has passed Pat Hoke (275), Vince Hinchen (265) and Danny Jones (257) on that list this season to rank 8th.

Further, with 259 assists, Karl is now 7th place in career assists at Boise State. Ahead of Coby, one of the best passers in the history of Boise State basketball, Doug Usitalo.
