Boise State's Forest Braden has been named the XBOX Live Western Athletic Conference Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week, according to the league office. Braden shattered the existing school record in the 5,000-meter run last Saturday at the Husky Classic in Seattle. Braden's time of 13:47.73 broke Jose Uribe's 1997 record by 21 seconds and also automatically qualified him for the NCAA Championships.
Braden also broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run earlier in the year on the same track in Seattle. The WAC award is the third this season for members of the Boise State track team. Senior Mattias Jons was honored by the league as its Player of the Week twice this season.
