Bronco Freshman Gets WAC Nod

Freshmen do well to play their first season as a collegiate student-athlete. This freshman is not only playing but starring for Boise State. Clancy Shields is one of three Broncos named as WAC Player of the Week in three different sports.

Boise State freshman Clancy Shields has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 13, his first ever selection. Shields is one of three Broncos awarded WAC Player of the Week this week in three different sports.

Since joining the Broncos this spring, Shields, the younger brother of All-American sophomore Luke Shields, has gone 6-2 in singles and is a perfect 8-0 in doubles with freshman partner Steve Robertson.

Shields went 2-0 in both singles and doubles last weekend against Utah and Brigham Young. The Broncos defeated No. 54 Utah, 5-2 and snapped BYU's 12-match home winning streak with a 6-1 win.

Other men's tennis nominees were Nevada's Eldar Dzhafarov, New Mexico State's Christian Halligan and Utah State's Joao Pinho.

The Broncos host Arizona March 3rd.
