The Boise State women's basketball team gave a model performance last night of how you handle an underdog. They might want to keep this one on file, not only for themselves but for the men's team as well. Coach Gordy Presnell's team grabbed a 17-point lead in the first half and didn't let up, holding New Mexico State to just 38% shooting in a resounding 72-45 victory in Taco Bell Arena.
The win breaks a three-game losing streak and gives the Lady Broncos their most wins in a season since 1999. Boise State is 13-11 overall and now 5-7 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Aggies slip to 7-16 and 4-8 with the loss.
Junior guard Nadia Begay led the Broncos with 20 points including three 3-pointers and 7 of 7 shooting from the foul line, while Jessica Thompson added 14. Freshman Rebecca Kepilino enjoyed the best game of her young Bronco career with 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Tristan Baker led New Mexico State with 11.
Boise State hosts the #24 team in the nation, fellow WAC member Louisiana Tech, Saturday at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs are 19-4 overall and 11-1 in league after blitzing WAC contender San Jose State 78-48 last night.
