Bronco Golfers Take Aim At Braveheart Field

Led by senior Graham DeLaet, who owns the 16th best average in collegiate golf history, Boise State looks to continue its success in the 19-team Braveheart Classic in Riverside, California.

The Boise State golf team travels to California for the Braveheart Classic next Monday and Tuesday, hosted by UC-Riverside. Nineteen teams will play three rounds of golf in the tournament. Bronco senior Graham DeLaet won the individual title at the Braveheart last year, leading Boise State to a fifth-place finish.

Other teams slated to compete are Utah, UCLA, San Diego, Pennsylvania, Utah State, Jacksonville, Idaho State, Cal Poly, Southern Utah, Weber State, Gonzaga, Pacific, Santa Clara, Portland, Cal State-Northridge, Loyola Marymount, UC-Santa Barbara and Sacramento State.

The Broncos are the second-highest ranked team of those entered in the Braveheart with a Golfstat ranking of No. 54. Santa Clara is ranked No. 42, but lost to Boise State by four strokes in their own tournament.

DeLaet has captured three individual titles this season and is averaging 70.2 per game this season. That average not only is the best in Bronco history, but ranks #16 in collegiate golf history. DeLaet is now in sixth place in the Golfstat Cup standings, the highest a Bronco golfer has been ranked. He has won 10 tournaments, six more than any other Bronco in school history. DeLaet was named earlier this year to the mid-season All-America team.

Jason Williams has finished in the top 20 four consecutive tournaments. Williams' 14 career top 25 finishes now moves him into fifth lace on the Bronco all-time list, ahead of former Bronco great Jarrod Warner. Jake Sestero tied for eighth last week, allowing him to move into a tie for sixth place all-time for top 10 finishes. Adam Choy has 15 career top 25 finishes, fourth on the all-time list. Junior Brian Smith (formerly of Eagle High School) is tied for eight on Boise State's all-time list for top 25 finishes.
