Broncos Sweep PAC-10 Oregon 7-0!

Boise State's tennis team rocked the University of Oregon of the PAC-10 Conference with a 7-0 victory over the Ducks today at the Boas Tennis Complex. Coach Greg Patton's 32nd-ranked Broncos have now won eight matches in a row.

Led by sophomore Eric Roberson and junior Piotr Dilaj's upset win, the Broncos swept all three doubles matches for the third time this season. Roberson and Dilaj knocked off #41 Gustavo Loza and Mike Myrhed 8-3. Senior Thomas Schoeck and sophomore Luke Shields, #17in the nation, won their fourth straight match with an 8-5 win and freshmen Clancy Shields and Steve Robertson completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win. Shields and Robertson are 11-0 this spring.

Luke Shields downed Ducks senior Markus Schiller in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at the first position to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead in the dual. Shields has won seven consecutive matches, improving his season record to 17-5, including 8-3 this spring.

Roberson then put away Myrhed, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, at the fourth position to extend the lead to 3-0. Clancy Shields followed to clinch the win for the Broncos with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory.


All-American Schoeck also won in straight setes, Dilaj came back from a 6-1 first set loss to win and Brent Werbeck's 6-3, 6-4 win gave the Broncos a sweep over their PAC-10 Conference foe.


The Broncos travel to participate in the Blue-Gray Tournament beginning Thursday in Montgomery, Alabama. This tournament is traditionally one of the most prestigious team tennis tournaments in the country and the Broncos have had significant success there in recent years. Last year, the Broncos knocked off #18 Notre Dame.
