Bronco Gymnasts Surprise Rival Utah State

As Boise State and Utah State are the favorites to win the WAC gymnastics championship in its inital season, the Broncos' road win in Logan was important from a mental standpoint. Boise State was solid in all four events in racking up their impressive showing.

In a good preview of the upcoming battle for the Western Athletic Conference gymnastics championship, Boise State upended Utah State 194.425 to 193.3 tonight in Logan. It was the Broncos' best road effort of the year.

Lindsay Ward and Taylor Jacob got Coach Sam Sandmire's team off to a great start on bars, each scoring 9.825's. Jessica Parenti of Utah State matched Ward's and Jacob's scores on that apparatus. On vault, the Broncos scored a respectable 48.675 as a team as freshman Shaniece Craft leading the way with a 9.825. Jacob took first in floor exercises with a solid 9.85 and Katie Dinsmore performed a 9.825 routine. Jacob and Kea Cuaresma tied for second on the beam with 9.775's.

Boise State stays in Utah for a meet against the 22nd-ranked BYU Cougars tomorrow night in Provo.
