Guyette Wins 5,000 At Stanford Invitational

Boise State's track team finished the Stanford Invitational on a positive note, with Becky Guyette winning the 5,000 meters, while Mattias Jons and Staffan Jonsson each took second yesterday.

Becky Guyette won her section of the women's 5,000-meter run yesterday at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto as the Boise State track team ended the prestigious meet on a winning note. The former Marsing High School star ran the distance in 16:52.68, missing the NCAA regional qualifying mark by less than two seconds.

The Broncos posted three seventh place finishes yesterday at the Invitational. Eleni Kafourou had a mark of 37-5.25 in the triple jump, Jackieann Morain ran the 400 meters in 55.49 and the 4x100-meter relay team had a time of 47.94. Kristen Brogdon added a fourth place finish in the "B" section of the high jump with a mark of 5-3.75.


Mattias Jons and Staffan Jonsson each came away with second place finishes for the men in the hammer and discus, respectively. Jons' runner-up throw was 223 feet, 4 inches while Jonsson's second place throw was 187-7. Antoine Echols placed sixth in the 400 with a time of 48.26 and he ran an 11.51 in the 100-meter dash to take seventh.

The Broncos head to Eugene next Saturday (April 8) to compete in the Pepsi Team Invitational.
