Francis Advances!

Keron Francis joined Mattias Jons in the national elite as the Boise State senior had the second best javelin throw today at the NCAA National Track & Field Championships. Francis will compete in the national finals Saturday, while Jons goes for the national title Friday afternoon.

Two Bronco events, two Broncos in the finals. Keron Francis advanced to the finals of the men's javelin at the NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento today, joining hammer thrower Mattias Jons in the finals. Francis heaved the spear 237 feet, seven inches, good for second among qualifiers today. Justin Ryncavage of North Carolina led all javelin throwers with a fine throw of 243-3.

Boise State's Scott Viafore, who improved as the season went on, had a disappointing throw of 210-7 and did not qualify.

So it will be up to Jons and Francis to score points for the Broncos. With Viafore not qualifying, Boise State has little chance of finishing in the national top ten.

Jons will compete in the finals of the hammer today at 1 p.m. Boise time and Eleni Kafourou will make her first appearance on the national scene when she competes in the qualifying round of the triple jump this afternoon at 2.

Francis has a day off to savor his performance before competing in the javelin finals, scheduled for Saturday morning at 11.

Congratulations to Keron and good luck to Mattias and Eleni today in Sacramento!
